The Jammeister's Bio

Hi, I'm Gene Caprioglio, The Jammeister.  I developed my moniker while hosting a jam in Astoria, Queens back in 1992, and I still like it. It's slightly pretentious and grandiose, but hey, you only live once.   There was a good profile of me done in the Queens Gazette which provides a lot of my basic information.  Here's a link for interested parties.

I started playing guitar on November 27, 1965.  My lesson card from DeBellis Music School is below. The storefront music school is gone.  There is an Asbury Park themed bar, Madame Marie's, in that location now.  I had a sixtieth anniversary party there last year to celebrate my relationship with my guitar.  My teacher at DeBellis was John Savolainen.  He was a good teacher and a nice guy.  I remember the moment when I was playing a duet with him and I had a revelation.  I thought, this is beautiful, and I want to do it forever.  I've succeeded so far.

This is my first music book.  It contains classics like Jingle Bells and Merry We Roll Along. There's a duet on Down in the Valley.  I've scanned it, and inserted it below. I imagine it might have been what we were playing when I had my revelation.

Here's a dream version of Down in the Valley I cooked up in Garage Band for your listening pleasure.  If you've gotten this far, you deserve a break.

This is the oldest photo I have of me playing a guitar. I think I'm about 15 . That would make it 1967.  My brother , Lou, took the photo.
